Glentress Forest MTB Centre

LocationGlentress, Peebles

ClientPick Everard (for Forest & Land Scotland)

The extension and broadening of trails, including an all-abilities loop, together with re-organisation of access, car-parking and signage, associated with construction of 50 holiday lodges, will ensure that Glentress continues to be seen as the flagship mountain bike trail centre and family activity base of the 7Stanes.

Our brief was to evolve the range of trails and especially the offer to families and those of more limited mobility. We have also reviewed and redesigned the arrival sequence and visitor circulation through the core part of the site, improving legibility and flow and removing points of hazard or confusion. We have designed a new all-abilities trail integated with downhill taster trails and a cutting edge skills park, working in collaboration with a specialist MTB trails designer. We have also produced concept designs for a series of landmark trail bridges, which demonstrate the capabilities and aesthetic qualities of timber; they will form spectacular features on the all-abilities trail, carrying daredevil mountain bikers over head.

During the commission our role has expanded to include integration of major event start/finish line and associated infrastructure (spectator access routes, spectating areas, competitor vehicle park and warm-up area, technical area, press area and marshalling space etc). This will enable Glentress to host National and International MTB races, cementing its reputation as a fore-runner in the sport.

Works are due to commence on site in Spring 2022.

The all abilities trail will afford wonderful views of the Tweed valley.

New car parking is required to compensate for areas lost for the new holiday lodges. Parking integrates natural SUDS, bike wash, EV charging and ANPR payment system.

Concept design for a timber black run bridge over the all-abilities trail.

Our team have experience designing varied cycle trails, such as the C2C in Cumbria

The new trails will explore the beautiful landscape of the Tweed Valley
