Bo'ness Dementia Friendly Garden

ClientNHS Forth Valley

Before the interventions the garden was underused mainly due to limited accessibility and provided little variety or seasonal interest.

New routes around the garden provide a range of spaces from more social grouped seating areas to quieter spots next to the summer house and refuge. Smooth path surfaces minimise risk of trips and falls, and no high contrast colours, which can suggest a change in level or step to those with impaired eyesight.

The garden style and scale of planting helps to define these finer grain spaces and to provide seasonal interest and colour with herbacous perennials, raised timber planters with herbs, apple and cherry blossoms and spring bulbs.
