Tigh Beag commended in the 2016 Cairngorms National Park Design Awards

As part of the the Cairngorms National Park Design Awards, commendation was given to Tigh Beag, a high-performance residential house designed by SHS Burridge Architects and completed by A W Laing, in Nethybridge.

The garden design, developed by Raeburn Farquhar Bowen, aims to complement the new home, preserve privacy and take advantage of site setting, south-facing and backed by native pinewood. Great care was given to the selection, quality and durability of the materials as well as the plant range to provide low-maintenance, attractive external spaces throughout the year. As part of the hardworks, a deck structure accommodating a hot tub was designed, providing a welcoming social space.

This competition aims to promote and recognise the contribution of good design within the National Park. It does not only focus on the overall design but also its integration to the landscape, its affordability and its sustainability.
