Beithir's Lair Play Park opens in St Fillans

A joyous day for the people of St Fillans, who gathered on Saturday for a picnic to celebrate the opening of The Beithir's Lair Play Park. Inspired by the Scottish Beasties characters created by Murray Henderson and illustrator William McLean Kerr, our design for the play park exploits the rich character of the site that encompasses mature oak woodland, raspberry thickets, meadow and rock outcrops. Play at its most engaging is an exploratory, imaginative activity; using all of our senses and inviting us to decide how we want to use features of the environment around us - both natural and man-made. The Beithir's Lair riffs on ancient local legends, natural rhythms of moon and sun, a cast of diverse 'Scottish Beasties' including Faeries, Hugmahush and even the life-cycle of ticks. The local Community Trust have done an amazing job to raise £160,000 over the 8-year life of the project, and we have enjoyed being a part of such a wonderful, unusual project.
